ClearLedger ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect your information when you use the ClearLedger application and related services (the "Service").

1. Information We Collect

We collect the following types of information:

Account information: name, email address, and password (encrypted) when you sign up.
Financial data you enter: bills, receivables, budgets, transactions, company details, and related notes you add to the app.
Banking data: if you connect a bank account via Plaid, we receive read-only access to account balances and transaction history. We never receive or store your bank login credentials — these are handled directly by Plaid.
Scanned documents and images: receipts, bills, and legal documents you upload or scan using the AI receipt scanner and document vault.
Usage data: basic analytics such as pages visited and features used, to help us improve the Service.

2. How We Use Your Information

To provide, operate, and maintain the Service.
To process and categorize transactions, bills, and receipts using AI (including third-party AI providers such as Anthropic).
To send you reminders about upcoming or overdue bills, license expirations, and lease renewals.
To respond to support requests and communicate with you about your account.
To improve and develop new features.

3. How We Protect Your Data

All data is encrypted at rest using AES-256 encryption and in transit using TLS. The Legal Document Vault is additionally protected by a PIN and auto-locks after 5 minutes of inactivity. ClearLedger employees do not have routine access to your financial documents or vault contents.

4. Banking Data via Plaid

ClearLedger uses Plaid Inc. to connect to your bank accounts. When you link a bank account, your login credentials are entered directly into Plaid's secure interface and are never seen or stored by ClearLedger. We receive read-only access to transaction and balance data. ClearLedger cannot move, withdraw, or transfer funds. Plaid's use of your information is governed by Plaid's own privacy policy.

5. AI Processing

When you use the AI receipt scanner or voice/text transaction logging, the relevant text or image data is sent to our AI provider (Anthropic's Claude API) for processing and extraction. This data is used solely to extract structured information (such as vendor name, amount, and date) and is not used to train AI models.

6. Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal or financial data. We may share data with:

Service providers who help us operate the app (e.g., hosting providers, Plaid, our AI provider) under appropriate confidentiality obligations.
Law enforcement or regulators, only if required by law.

7. Data Retention & Deletion

You can export your data at any time from the Export & Import section of the app. If you close your account, your data will be permanently deleted from our systems within 30 days.

8. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data. To exercise these rights, contact us at support@clear-ledger.app.

9. Children's Privacy

The Service is not directed to individuals under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated via email or an in-app notice. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
